Identification
Extinct in the wild. There are possibly less than 100 birds in captivity.
26.5-34 cm. Deep cinnamon head and underparts, blue-grey nape, iridescent pink patch on neck, most prominent after moult. The upperparts are rufous brown. Females and juveniles are slightly duller.
Distribution
Socorro Island in the Revillagigedo Islands (western Mexico).
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Habitat
Low forest.
Behaviour
Its diet includes fruit, particularly figs.
Little is known about its breeding habits. 2 white eggs are laid, incubated for 14-17 days and the young fledge after 14-20 days.
