Identification

33–34 cm

  • Green plumage
  • Darker green upperparts
  • Dark feather edges on hind crown, nape and mantle giving the 'scaled appearance'
  • Whitish orbital ring

Distribution

South America: found in Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia

Habitat

Western-slope of the Andes. Low Andean cloud forest (mostly secondary). Observed at heights around 2,055 m

Behaviour

There is very little behavioural information available.

Breeding

Breeding has been recorded in Colombia during March to May, with incubation lasting around 25-26 days.
