Nectarinia rufipennis

Identification

Length 12 cm; a large sunbird. Adult male: Has iridescent blue crown, face, nape and back. The throat is bronze and is separated from a red breast by a blue breast-band.

Distribution

Udzungwa Mountains, Tanzania.

Taxonomy

This is one of the many Sunbirds that have recently been moved to the genus Cinnyris from the genus Nectarinia.

Habitat

Moist montane forest.

Status

The Rufous-winged Sunbird is classified as Vulnerable in the 2007 IUCN Red List due to its limited range. However, its habitat is well protected at present.
