Chrysocolaptes erythrocephalus

Identification

Bright red head, golden back with dark tail.

Distribution

Endemic to the Philippines (Balabac, Palawan, Busuanga and Calamian Islands)

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

It was formerly included in Greater Flameback (Chrysocolaptes lucidus)

Habitat

Forests.

Behaviour

Frequents the canopy and middle story. Usualy in small noisy groups up to ten, even at nest. Sometimes solitary.
