Endemic to Southeast Asia: found in Indochina, Malaysia, Borneo, Indonesia, Greater Sundas, Sumatra, Java

Taxonomy

Reference [3] suggests the subspecies differ in plumage (and perhaps vocally). It suggests elevation as "Sumatran Scops Owl" (solokensis) and "Bornean Scops Owl" (brookii) respectively.

• O. b. solokensis: Sumatra
• O. b. brookii: Borneo
