Southeast Asia: found in Indochina, Thailand, Malaysia, Malay Peninsula, Brunei, Singapore, Borneo, Indonesia, Greater Sundas, Sumatra, Java and the Moluccas.

- Borneo; also Bangka, Belitung, and Balambangan islands, and the south Natuna Islands
- P. s. halizonus:
- Anambas Islands and North Natuna Islands
Habitat
Lowland forest edges, under heavy foliage; fruiting trees.
