Identification
15cm. A smallish flycatcher with an erectile crest.
- Blackish head
- Slate-grey rest of plumage with steel-blue and greenish gloss
Female slightly smaller and duller.
Distribution
Endemic to Pohnpei Island, Micronesia.
A common restricted-range species.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species.
It was formerly considered conspecific with Oceanic Flycatcher, Palau Flycatcher and Guam Flycatcher.
Habitat
Found in forest and at forest edge, also in village gardens.
Behaviour
Feeds on insects.
Forages in low undergrowth. Seen singly or in pairs, often sitting on a perch from where it hunts by flycatching.
No information on breeding.
A sedentary species.
