Taxonomy
Philippine Shortwing, Bornean Shortwing, Sumatran Shortwing, Javan Shortwing and Flores Shortwing were formerly lumped together under the name of White-browed Shortwing.
Subspecies
Clements recognizes seven subspecies[1].
- B. m. poliogyna: Mountains of northern Luzon (northern Philippines)
- B. m. andersoni: Mountains of southern Luzon (northern Philippines)
- B. m. mindorensis: Highlands of Mindoro (Philippines)
- B. m. brunneiceps: Mountains of Negros (Philippines)
- B. m. mindanensis: Southern Philippines (Mount Apo and Mount Matutum on Mindanao)
- B. m. malindangensis: Southern Philippines (Mount Malindang region of north-western Mindanao)
- B. m. sillimani: Mountains of southern Palawan (southern Philippines)
