Identification

Dark back, pale belly, and blue feet, brown face and neck.

Distribution

Peru from approximately Cimbote almost to Valdivia in Chile. Breeding colonies known on La Vieja Island and San Gallan Island in the National Reserve of Paracas, as well as Isla Blanca off Chimbote

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Coastal areas, breeding mostly on islands.

Behaviour

Peruvian Diving-Petrel is a good swimmer and dives for its food. They are probably better at flying than expected, as they can be found a good distance away from known breeding sites. Researcher from the Peruvian conservation group Mundo Azul have observed diving petrels up to 300 km north of their know breeding colonies.

Breeding

Nests are placed in burrows, and visited at night.
