Overview

This national park lies on the southern slopes of the Velebit Mountains and is an area of dramatic scenery and has a highly unusual flora. Habitats within the park include valleys with beech-covered slopes, high rocky peaks and two large river gorges down to the Dalmatian coast. The larger, 10km long western gorge forms the main access route into the park. The spectacular limestone walls of these gorges reach 400m in places and there are numerous caves.

This 3600 ha national park and Special Protection Area has forests of Oak, Hornbeam and Black Pine in addition to beechwoods and there are extensive areas of low scrubby growth in the lower areas.
