- Myrmotherula pacifica
Identification
9 cm (3.5 inches)
Male has bold black and white stripes both on upperside and underside of body.
Female differs in having head and neck and underside tawny-colored; some black stripes in rear crown to nape but the underside is unstriped. The rest of the upperside is like the male.
Distribution
Panama (in western half only on Caribbean side), Colombia and Ecuador (in these two on the Pacific side of the Andes).
Taxonomy
Habitat
Forest and second growth edges, riparian thickets, etc, most often in situations with lots of vines. Occurs mostly in lowland to 800 m asl or occasionally higher.
Behaviour
Feeds using active movements picking small invertebrates from branches and leaves. Usually found in low to medium levels of the forest, not on the ground but also not in canopy.
