Euphonia gouldi

Identification

9.5 cm long and weighs 12g. Olive upperparts, yellow forehead, rufous belly surrounded by yellow. Female is less glossy than the male, chestnut forehead, yellow underparts and a small rufous belly patch.

Distribution

Caribbean, Mexico to western Panama.

  • Extreme easterb Honduras to westerb Panama (Bocas del Toro)

Habitat

Wet forests.

Behaviour

Breeding

It builds a spherical cup nest, with a side entrance, hidden in a tree. 3 brown-marked white eggs are laid.

Diet

The diet includes small fruits.

Vocalisation

Call: a metallic chrrr-chrrr
Song: a mixture of the call with clear or nasal whistles
