Identification
8.75 in. Grey head, white forehead, yellow nape (best seenfrom behind), grey upperparts, black upper tail coverts, white throat, neck and underparts, grey abdomen, rufous lower flanks, black tail, bill and legs.
The southern subspecies brevirostris is smaller and darker.
Distribution
Chile and Argentina wintering to Peru, and Bolivia.
Taxonomy
Two subspecies are recognized: flavinucha and brevirostris.
Habitat
Rocky hillsides near watering-places.
Behaviour
It builds the nest in splits or holes and 2-4 white with reddish stains eggs are laid.
