Pitta abboti

Identification

16 - 19cm, a rather small pitta

• Mainly green plumage
• Black head, with chestnut crown
• Red vent
• Red lower belly
• Bluish shoulder patch
• White in wing visible when flying

Distribution

Nicobar Islands (India).

Taxonomy

Western Hooded Pitta, Nicobar Hooded Pitta, Minahasa Hooded Pitta, Eastern Hooded Pitta, and Biak Hooded Pitta were all formerly considered a single species with the name Hooded Pitta.

Subspecies

This is a monotypic species[1].
