Found on Java and Bali, Indonesia
Taxonomy
Two subspecies recognized:
- C. s. strictus in coastal eastern Java and Bali
- C. s. kangeanensis on Kangean Island (north of Bali)
It was formerly included in Greater Flameback (Chrysocolaptes guttacristatus)
Habitat
Forests.
Behaviour
Frequents the canopy and middle story. Usualy in small noisy groups up to ten, even at nest. Sometimes solitary.
