Grey above with white scallops on the forehead. It has a cinnamon-russet tone of the flanks, undertail coverts and belly

Subspecies
There are 4 subspecies[1]:
- A. a. whitlocki:
- Inland southern Australia, extending to coast in west
- A. a. apicalis:
- Extreme south-western Western Australia east to western Victoria
- A. a. albiventris:
- Central Queensland and New South Wales to northern Victoria and eastern South Australia
- A. a. cinerascens:
- West-central Queensland
Habitat
It is found in dry scrub and woodland.
