Identification
Male
Crown very dark glossy green, hind crown with a slight purple gloss. Mantle and rump as crown with a slight yellowish/golden gloss. Lores black, ear coverts black with green tips. Thin purplish maroon moustachial stripe. Chin throat and upper breast dark metallic green, purpleish marron breast band, rest of underparts oliveish yellow. Pectoral tufts yellow. Wings black, thinly margined yellowish green. Tail black, tipped grey. Bare parts black.
Female
Crown to rump, and ear coverts, olive green. Chin to breast black with broad yellowish margins ( looks scalloped ). Belly pale yellow with dark olive arrowhead shaped streaks. Flanks washed deeper olive, undertail coverts pale yellow. Wings, tail and bare parts as male.
Distribution
Comoros
Confined to Grand Comoro and Moheli.
Taxonomy
This is one of the many Sunbirds that have recently been moved to the genus Cinnyris from the genus Nectarinia.
Cinnyris humbloti has two subspecies:
- C. h. humbloti ( Grand Comoro )
- C. h. mohelicus ( Moheli ).
Habitat
Forest, scrub and gardens to 790 m.
