Easy editing of pages is what the Opus is made for. It only takes a few clicks.
However, make sure you adhere to the instructions given under every editing window in the Opus: DO NOT SUBMIT COPYRIGHTED WORK WITHOUT PERMISSION! That means, for example, that you cannot copy text from Wikipedia or other online or printed sources unless you wrote that text in the first place, and that you cannot copy pictures or voice recordings from elsewhere unless you were the original photographer/recorder.
Editing new pages
If the page you wish to edit does not exist yet, see Help:Starting a new page
A good place to start is on our list of stubs - pages which only have a sentence or two at current and need expanding.
Editing existing pages
- Click the edit page tab
- Make changes to the text in the edit box. Make sure you write clearly and concisely, and make sure your edit does something to improve the page. If you're making normal changes to the text like fixing spelling mistakes or grammar, inserting new sentences, etc, then you don't have to worry too much about formatting. When you do need to use some type of formatting, you do it using the Opus syntax, see Help:Formatting for some of the common types of formatting used.
- Optionally, enter a short note in the Summary box describing your changes.
- Optionally preview your changes with the Preview button.
- Ensure your edit complies with the guidelines.
- To add an Image, first right click and save it to your hard drive. Select 'Upload file' from the Opus toolbox (see left panel) and using the browse button select the file from your hard drive. Copy the 'Destination filename' that appears and click 'submit'. In Bird Opus insert the code below the scientific name -((Image:Cuckoo_lizzard_Mona_25dec06_2b.jpg|thumb|550px|right|Photo by photographers name)) using two sets of square brackets instead '[' ']' . Please delete the 'MISSING IMAGES' title.
- Click the Save page button.
