Overview

Gujarat's Gulf of Kutch Marine National Park, established in 1982, has the honor of being the first of six marine national parks in India.

It is an archipelago of 42 islands with various habitats ranging from coral reefs to saline grasslands to rocky shores. These habitats support a wide range of corals, plants, sponges, bird species, and marine life.

Some of the bird species found here are the Painted Stork and Little Cormorant in addition to species of ducks, gulls, egrets, and herons.[2][3][4]

The Park is a nature-rich area in general. Birds, in particular, are well represented here.

Over 260 different species are sighted here as well as several threatened or endangered species.

There is a lot of birding activity in this area as evidenced by the numerous eBird spots shown on their map of the region. [1][5]

Rarities

As recent as 5 December 2020, no species are recorded as rare specifically for this area. [1]

Lesser Whistling Duck, Mallard, Gray Francolin, Great Crested Grebe, Laughing Dove, Asian Koel, Asian Palm Swift, White-breasted Waterhen, Indian Thick-knee, Eurasian Oystercatcher, Tibetan Sand Plover, Black-tailed Godwit, Common Redshank, Indian Courser, Caspian Tern, White Stork, Great Cormorant, Purple Heron, Red-naped Ibis, Osprey, Black Kite, Spotted Owlet, Asian Green Bee-eater, Indian Roller, Peregrine Falcon, Small Minivet, Black Drongo, Great Gray Shrike, Sand Lark, Jungle Prinia, Paddyfield Warbler, Asian Desert Warbler, Baya Weaver, Common Rosefinch

Other Wildlife

In addition to the birds here, there is the possibility of seeing monitor lizards, jackals, jungle cats, and various marine life to include species of turtles. [3]
