Identification

17 cm
The male Glossy Antshrike is all black except for white on the wings and the tip of the tail.

Distribution

A Brazilian endemic.

Taxonomy

Subspecies

There are 2 subspecies[1]:

  • S. l. luctuosus:
  • Central and eastern Amazonian Brazil
  • S. l. araguayae:
  • Central Brazil (southern River Araguaia drainage)

Habitat

By the sides of rivers and in várzea forest.

Behaviour

Diet

Their diet consists mostly of insects and beetles.
