Identification
14-15cm.
- Pale sandy-brown upperparts with dark streaks
- White underparts
- Dark streaked breast
- Pale stripe above eye
- Pale eyering
- Dark mark under eye
- Dark moustachial and malar stripes
- Black undertail, black above with rust brown central feathers and pale outer ones
- Pale pink or yellow bill
Distribution
Africa south of the Sahara: from Western Sahara and Mauritania, to Chad and Sudan. Vagrant in Morocco and probably other places in the region.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Formerly included Arabian Lark.
Habitat
Flat arid areas with grass and light bushes.
Behaviour
Nomadic, occurring where recent rain has led to appropriate habitat.
Diet
The diet includes insects and seeds.
Breeding
The nest is a ground scrape, lined with vegetation. The 2-3 eggs are white with black and lavender spots. They are incubated for 13-16 days.
