Location: Reserva ProAves - El Dorado, Santa Marta, Magdalena, Colombia

Distribution

Endemic to the Santa Marta Mountains in northeast Colombia.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species.
It was formerly included in Stripe-headed Brush Finch. It has in the past been placed in genus Atlapetes and is also placed in Buarremon by some authorities.

Behaviour

Usually fouraging on ground or very low in undergrowth.
