Identification
20·5–21 cm
- Greyish crown
- Whitish supercilium
- Rufous-brown belly
Distribution
Central America: Mexico to Costa Rica.
Taxonomy
Recently split from Grayish Saltator.
Subspecies
Six subspecies are recognized[1].
- S. g. vigorsii: North-western Mexico (Sinaloa, western Durango, Nayarit and coastal northern Jalisco)
- S. g. plumbiceps: Western Mexico (Jalisco to Colima, Guerrero and adjacent western Oaxaca)
- S. g. grandis: Eastern Mexico (Tamaulipas) to Guatemala and central Costa Rica
- S. g. yucatanensis: South-eastern Mexico (Yucatán Pen., adjacent Tabasco and ne Chiapas)
- S. g. hesperis: Pacific slope of southern Mexico (Chiapas) to Nicaragua
- S. g. brevicaudus: Pacific slope of western Costa Rica (Gulf of Nicoya region)

Songs include a stuttered song and a whistled song.
