Family: Anhingidae
Description
Large and particular long waterbirds of the Americas and Australia. They fish in fresh water by diving and spearing their prey. Their long sinous necks may give the impression of a snake while swimming, and thus they are known colloquially as snakebirds.
Taxonomy
Anhingidae is a monotypic family in the order Suliformes.
It was formerly placed in the order Pelecaniformes.
