- Ptilinopus granulifrons
Identification
20-24 cm
- plumage green tinged golden-yellow
- head, scapular patches and inner wing coverts grey
- belly patch purple with yellow edging (latter may be difficult to see)
- undertail coverts and vent pale yellow
- cere with fleshy orange/yellowish growth ('caruncles')
- bill entirely (orangy) yellow
- iris dark (reddish or amber)
Male: yellowish bill, female: greenish bill.
Similar species
Similar to Grey-headed Fruit-Dove although this is not present on Obi. Differs as follows:
- fleshy cere knob
- yellow fringe to purple belly patch
- iris dark (light in Grey-headed)
- entirely bright yellow bill (pale yellow with a grey base in Grey-headed)
Distribution
Obi (north-central Moluccas): Indonesia: South-east Asia
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Habitat
Moist lowland forests, moist shrubland, and arable land.
Behaviour
The diet includes fruit.
