Central Africa: southern South Sudan, northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, and western Kenya south to central and eastern Zambia and central Malawi; rare nonbreeding visitor to Ethiopia
Taxonomy
This is either a monotypic species[1] or two subspecies are recognized, cardinalis and rhodesiae[2].
