Asia: found in China, Tibet, Nepal, India, Eastern and Western Himalayas and Bhutan
Southeast Asia: Indochina, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam and Thailand

Taxonomy

There are 2 subspecies.

• P. p. kangrae:

• Montane oak-rhododendron forests of north-western Himalayas

• P. p. pulcher:

• Nepal to Tibet, south-western China and northern Myanmar; winters to northern Thailand
