Identification
24.5 - 26cm. A medium-sized brownish-grey laughingthrush.

Distribution
Asia: found in south and southeast Tibet. One record in northeast India (Arunachal Pradesh).
Locally common.
Taxonomy
Monotypic[1]
The described subspecies gucenensis may be a hybrid with Elliot's Laughingthrush.
Has been treated conspecific with Elliot's Laughingthrush and White-whiskered Laughingthrush.
Also placed in the genus Garrulax.
Habitat
Semiarid montane scrub, human habitation and crop fields. Found at 1980m - 4570m.
Behaviour
Feeds probably on invertebrates and some vegetable matter.
Forages mostly on the ground in pairs or small groups.
Breeding season from May to July. The nest is an untidy cup made of dried grass, dead leaves, strips of birch bark and moss. It's placed in a hedge or in a bush close to the ground. Lays 2 - 3 eggs.
Resident species with some altitudinal movements.
