Identification
15cm
- Green head, nape, underparts
- Blue grey flanks
- Dark brown mantle and back
- Brown ear coverts
- Green rump
- Tail in centrally green but outer rectrices are red with black tip
- Upperside of wings have brown at the bend of the wing
- Orange eye-ring
- Bill yellowish to grey basally
Distribution
South America: found in south-eastern Brazil (southern Bahia to Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Paraná).
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Habitat
Moist forests, mainly 500 - 1200 m locally 0 - 1700 m asl.
Behaviour
While feeding climbs around using feet and bill. Eats fruit and berries. Frequently seen moving around in flocks.
