Identification
13·5–15 cm (5¼-6 in) Male
- Violet-blue crown, upper back and ear-tufts
- Black lores , nape, collar and lower back
Distribution
Australia: found in south-western Western Australia and Eyre Peninsula, South Australia.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Habitat
Dry and semi-arid woodlands, mallee, wattle with shrubby understorey, open sand-plain heaths.
Behaviour
Diet
They are almost entirely insectivorous. Prey items include beetles, weevils, flies, ants and wasps.
Breeding
Monogomous. They may raise up to two broods in the year.
