Black-chinned Robin - BirdForum Opus

Identification

14–15 cm (5½-6 in)

  • Black crown and head sides
  • Long white supercilium
  • Dark grey upperparts

Distribution

South-east Asia: found in Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.

Taxonomy

Subspecies

There are 3 subspecies[1]:

  • P. b. brachyura:
  • Western New Guinea (Vogelkop, Wandammen and Weyland mountains)
  • P. b. albotaeniata:
  • P. b. dumasi:

Habitat

Lowland and foothill forests up to heights around 650 m.

Behaviour

Diet

Their diet consists mostly of insects, generally caught on the wing.
