Identification

14–15 cm (5½-6 in)

• Black crown and head sides
• Long white supercilium
• Dark grey upperparts

Distribution

South-east Asia: found in Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.

Taxonomy

Subspecies

There are 3 subspecies^[1]:

• P. b. brachyura:

• Western New Guinea (Vogelkop, Wandammen and Weyland mountains)

• P. b. albotaeniata:

• New Guinea (Geelvink Bay region) and Yapen Island

• P. b. dumasi:

• Northern New Guinea (Humboldt Bay to Sepik River)

Habitat

Lowland and foothill forests up to heights around 650 m.

Behaviour

Diet

Their diet consists mostly of insects, generally caught on the wing.
