New Guinea: Indonesia (provinces of Papua and West Papua), and Papua New Guinea.
Taxonomy
Black-capped Robin was formerly included in Ashy Robin (a.k.a. Arfak Robin).
Subspecies
Clements recognizes these subspecies[1]:
- H. a. atricapilla:
- North-eastern New Guinea (mountains of Huon Peninsula)
- H. a. rothschildi:
- New Guinea (Weyland and Snow mountains)
- H. a. centralis:
- Central Highlands of New Guinea
- H. a. armiti:
- Herzog Mountains and mountains of south-eastern New Guinea
According to some sources, subspecies atricapilla should be included within armiti and centralis within rothschildi.
