Identification

Distribution

New Guinea: Indonesia (provinces of Papua and West Papua), and Papua New Guinea.

Taxonomy

Black-capped Robin was formerly included in Ashy Robin (a.k.a. Arfak Robin).

Subspecies

Clements recognizes these subspecies[1]:

  • H. a. atricapilla:
  • North-eastern New Guinea (mountains of Huon Peninsula)
  • H. a. rothschildi:
  • H. a. centralis:
  • H. a. armiti:
  • Herzog Mountains and mountains of south-eastern New Guinea

According to some sources, subspecies atricapilla should be included within armiti and centralis within rothschildi.
