Identification
16 - 19cm, a rather small pitta
- Mainly green plumage
- Black head
- Red vent
- Red lower belly with blue boarder
- Bluish shoulder patch
- No white in wing
Distribution
On Biak Island (off northwest New Guinea).
Taxonomy
Western Hooded Pitta, Nicobar Hooded Pitta, Minahasa Hooded Pitta, Eastern Hooded Pitta, and Biak Hooded Pitta were all formerly considered a single species with the name Hooded Pitta.
Subspecies
This is a monotypic species[1].
