Identification

30–33 cm

  • Greyish-black axillaries and underwing-coverts, barred black and white
  • Pinkish eye ring
  • Pink bare orbital skin

Distribution

South-east Asia: New Guinea, northern Moluccas Islands, Aru Islands, western Papuan Islands, and New Ireland.

Habitat

Floor of primary and marsh forests, swamps and wet grass.
