Identification

46–50 cm

  • Dark brown, white-flecked flanks
  • Dark grey underparts flecked with white
  • Black head
  • Neck flecked dark brown in the spring and white in the winter
  • Slaty grey legs,
  • Black bill with vertical central band
  • Brown irisis
  • Small winged

Distribution

Lake Atitlan, Guatemala.

Behaviour

Flightless.

Breeding

Four to five white eggs were laid and cared for by both parents.
