Identification

  • Dun-coloured
  • Reddish bill and rump
  • Very fine barring on upperparts, sides of breast and flanks
  • Pale eyes

Distribution

Western Africa: found in Southern Nigeria (Niger River delta to Benin border)

Taxonomy

Monotypic[1]

It is considered a subspecies of Fawn-breasted Waxbill by some authors[2]

Habitat

Long grass beside water courses, marshes, swamps and lagoons; on sandbanks and in forests.

Behaviour

Diet

The diet includes mainly grass seeds

Vocalisation

Its call is a tzzzt.
