Western Africa: found in Southern Nigeria (Niger River delta to Benin border)

It is considered a subspecies of Fawn-breasted Waxbill by some authors[2]
Habitat
Long grass beside water courses, marshes, swamps and lagoons; on sandbanks and in forests.

The diet includes mainly grass seeds

Its call is a tzzzt.
