Identification

Male

• Dark grey
• Black throat
• Black wing coverts fringed with white
  

Female

• Dark grey upperparts
• Black wing coverts fringed reddish-brown
• Underparts reddish-brown, paler at chin and whitish on central belly

Similar species

Best way to separate from Black-headed Antbird is by sound (but range seemingly not overlapping).

Distribution

South America: found only in North-eastern Peru north of River Marañón (R. Morona to R. Nanay drainage)

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species described in 2002.

Habitat

Dry forests.

Behaviour

Finds its food low to the ground, within 1 m.

Vocalizations

A song of 8-10 whistles, the two first of slightly higher pitch, series becoming slower towards the end. Usually sings from a perch at similar height, pumping its tail while singing.
