Identification

18-20 cm.

  • Streaked buffy-grey head and back
  • Grey wings
  • Cream underparts with dark streaking on the breast and flanks
  • Long-tail
  • Long curved bill.

Distribution

South Africa - limited to the Overberg district from Cape Agulhas to Mossel Bay. Listed as Near-threatened due to its limited distribution.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species1.

Habitat

Sparsely vegetated shrublands.

Behaviour

Breeding

It nests on the ground.

Diet

The diet includes seeds and insects.
