Sandhill Crane parents (1 Viewer)

In our neighborhood in Vero Beach FL we have a resident pair that strolls through the yards. They will walk right up to you and are very friendly....... until they are teaching their chicks to forage. As I was walking towards my garden and 50 ft from the family daddy walked quickly towards me in a threatening way. I was inside the chicken wire fast and he paced back and forth for 10 minutes as I pulled weeds. He left after realizing I was no threat. They're in my yard every day. What great parents they are. My fav. Right next to penguins.

Welcome to Birdforum. I hope you enjoy your visits.

How wonderful to have sandhill cranes in your garden.

Hi, welcome to the forum. On behalf of the staff and moderators. I think you will find us a friendly and helpful group. Sandhill cranes are some of my favorite birds. When I lived in AZ they would winter within 30 minutes of us, thousands of them on the playa - I loved it.

Hi snookman and a warm welcome from me too.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I hope to hear about all the birds you see when out and about.
