I think you are right Gary but the term 'Viperine' means it looks like a viper, not that it is one. Lee

and, and fish! See pic of fish photo'd in France, we call Chubb in UK and snakes (the one in the pic has just swallowed a fish)! Lee

Actually in the UK we would call Eppiphiger a Bush Cricket. They have very long antennae, much longer than the small species that we call grasshoppers. Locusts are a group of grasshoppers whose populations grow and shrink in cycles and when a population of them grows enough they migrate in...

Many years ago while travelling in Netherlands on business I finished my appointments early one day and on the way to my hotel went for a walk in the reserve. I saw a Bluethroat and Roe Deer and a Red Fox saw me and we watched each other for several minutes before he walked away. The Bluethroat...

Torview I have been using one locally and I would not argue with your description at all. More impressive still is that when I leave them near a window at home, when I come back to them I always find that the IPD is wider than mine. This means Troubadoris likes them! Lee

Very nice assessment. My brother in law visited us recently and tried them out and is buying a pair to complement his Ultravids in the new year. Lee

I have a narrow IPD so the attachment lugs are as described by Brink, that is they are underneath when I have lifted the binos to my eyes. I did not notice them at all when using the binos in the field, apart from the way they hang from the neck with the oculars leaning away from my body, unlike...

Me and Troubadoris share washing up chores CJ. And BTW, I do the cooking..... The GE was stunning but more charming were the Brown Hares that visited almost every evening. See the pic. Lee

Thanks Mike. I don't know the answers to your questions but we all know on here that your brain does a lot of 'processing' of what you see and the shifting relationships caused by differing fields of view/depths of field/reduced magnification-compression means that its hard to visually...

I have been using an old Zeiss Dialyt rain guard and while it is not perfect I found it worked reasonably well on Islay. Here is a pic of the one I mean. It is old-fashioned and clunky-looking but it is very effective and versatile. Lee

Hi Brink I haven't tried the 8x32 so can't comment on that one. You mention poor quality control and sample variation as possible explanations of the CA Allbinos found in the 6.5x. There are two other explanations. One being that their unit was a pre-production unit, and the other being that...

Hi Chris, We did see the Golden Eagles a few times after this incident but not perched, and not so close. The area had Brown Hares, two of which visited us most evenings (see pic), and we found two hare carcases out on the hill, so the Eagles were probably visiting for this reason. Lee

Review of Kowa BD II 6.5x32 XD

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I picked up one of these at this year’s British Bird Fair, having only recently become acquainted with the view through a 7x bino, but the huge field of view was intriguing to say the least, and led eventually to this review. However, perhaps I should first...
