Green Listing 2021 - Joint thread

Some cracking species seen by many of you, putting me to shame! My New Year's resolution will be to walk directly from home more often (a bike would be torture around here!) as I have only the one species on my Green List this year that I didn't see from the house/garden, Wryneck down in the...

Yes, get well soon Colin. One for Europe and the World List too for me today, a Citril Finch feeding outside the house for around 20 minutes in the falling snow.

A lifer that’s a Green tick too, that’s not an everyday event! My last one of those was Pygmy Owl in 2012 as I hiked up from our previous abode and I suppose its relative the Tengmalm’s Owl is the most likely next one possible, I’ve heard one but never seen one so they are within walking distance 🤞

Thanks Colin, that saves us trawling back to locate it, I’ve added just the one this month, Middle Spotted Woodpecker, new for me but already on the overall list- must try harder!

Some of you should start a sub forum 'Extreme Green birding' looking at all the miles/kms being clocked up! If I don't start walking a bit further afield I'll be lucky to reach 100 by the year end. Still, two more in the past 48 hours for me, taking me to 89, Spotted Flycatcher and Pied Flycatcher.

Another one for Europe and the World List, Bonelli's Warbler in our veg garden yesterday (still around today in the incessant rain).

I take my chapeau off to you folk pushing yourselves to physical extremes. My faithful means of transport ( Shanks’ pony!) netted me a new one for my list this week, Hobby. I had to walk at least 10m from the house before I could confirm what it was. m being metres not miles ;)

    Excellent, Lammergeier next then!

Where are you exactly Xeno, is Griffon quite rare there? Had c20 messing about here yesterday but I’m too polite to yawn in public ;)

I’d be dead beat rather than dead chuffed after such an epic effort!

Five more for me recently, all without walking more than 25metres (well, I've been doing a lot of tiring gardening....). Red-backed Shrike, Whinchat, Northern Wheatear, Short-toed Snake Eagle and Honey Buzzard. None are new for the World list but Whinchat seems to be new for Europe, taking us to...

At what altitude do you find the Common Treecreeper Xeno ?

You’ll be fit enough to join the Royal Marines soon Colin, just in case you get called up if our respective countries start hostilities over Whelks etc😉 Just one more for me, five Common Swift seen from the house, my earliest ever by a good eight days for here (they were presumably passing...

A visit to the optician needed I suspect... All being well with weather (and my knee) I shall try and walk from home up to the ski resort next week to try and add a few new species to the Europe/World list, Citril Finch and Red-billed Chough hopefully ( though maybe the Chough has already been...

Gerald's Honey Buzzard and my Red-footed Falcon from yesterday now added to the list.

Looking forward to them arriving here soon then Gerald. If you type Control plus f a box appears top right of the spreadsheet and you can type in honey buzzard, it immediately shows if it’s already on the sheet ( apologies if you know this already!!).

Ah, you‘ve got me there, arrived there thanks to a not very green Boeing of some sort I suspect:(

It’s (probably) on my Green List for 1980 which was the only time I have ever been to the Balearics, I remember on a walk from our accommodation to the Boquer valley on Mallorca, watching a Spotted Flycatcher with a large butterfly in its Bill, feebly flapping its wings (the butterfly, not the...

Tree Pipit on our walk from home today was both a Green and Year tick.

Linnet and Firecrest added for me recently. The wintry weather isn't helping, more snow on the ground this morning and it's snowing again now! Still, it sent a load more Ring Ousels down from the mountains to feed in the field just up from the house, at least eight seen.

I think so, but I’d draw the line at Muscovy Duck in UK though ;)

Some good ones being seen! I can add one more for Europe, a Merlin here yesterday evening (species already on the World List from USA, so a different subspecies?), Europe now on 178, (I have a paltry 69 personally )
