    Geese going the wrong way..?

Great, thanks everyone!! Strangely enough I saw another flock (or perhaps the same one) in the evening heading in roughly the same direction. I wasn't aware that we had geese wintering here so that explains it now.

    Geese going the wrong way..?

Thanks guys I did read that they could be going to feeding sites, the problem I have with that is that to my knowledge (from my books mostly), we don't have resident winter populations of geese here and only a small population of greylag geese in the summer... so I would imagine, they are...

    Geese going the wrong way..?

I live in North West Poland so I am lucky enough to be more or less on the flight path of a lot of migrating geese and the last few weeks it has been, as always, beautiful to watch them fly by. This morning, however, I was left confused when I heard the familiar sound of geese above me, only to...

    Super fast tits

I have the same bird table Krzysztof :-) I hang suet balls from the metal 'stick' in the middle part. It stops the bigger birds from flying away with them and brings in more birds and for longer, because the balls last quite a long time. Lidl are good for bird food this time of year. :-) Which...

    A 'white' grey heron?

Does anyone know if grey herons have territories or do they tend to move around? Our land is on the river so they have 100's of kms of waterways at their disposal, but it would be great to think if it was a leucistic grey heron (and I now believe it was) that it might be around for a while and I...

    A 'white' grey heron?

Thanks for the replies. I know it's difficult to ID just from my brief description. However, in my opinion and based on my experience, this was a grey heron (but white). The thing that makes me want to discount the great white egret, apart from the fact that I've never seen one round here, is...

Birdwatching in Poland - spring is early plus a short video

Great video Ɓukasz :-) I'm in Bydgoszcz and I was shocked when I heard the cranes a couple of weeks ago, I thought I was mistaken... Haven't seen any storks here yet though.

    A 'white' grey heron?

A couple of days ago I saw a group of 4 grey herons flying up the river on our land but the last one was distinctly white and not grey at all like the first 3. My first thought was that it was a different bird, maybe a large seagull. I was quite far away (and had no camera with me) but the more...

    Buzzard? Black Kite? Please help.

Andy, I had the same thought, I figured I could count the kite out, but apparently they are one of the earliest returners in Spring with the first ones returning to Europe in mid-February, although we are quite far north in Europe so of course less likely. The worms and insects theory sounds...

    Buzzard? Black Kite? Please help.

Thanks guys! Has anyone heard of buzzards feeding on vegetable or fruit scraps or seeds because that's all that was down there? And he visited at least 3 times, so something took his fancy.... And the magpies walked around him like he was a vegetarian....|=)|

    Buzzard? Black Kite? Please help.

Hi All I was quite shocked to find photos on my field camera of a raptor visiting the feeding area where we had put down vegetable scraps for the wild boars and other animals. Raptors are my weakness, they're usually so high up and far away, I find them difficult to identify but I thought when...

    Hello from Poland!

I'm an exiled half-Danish Brit from Newcastle, now living and settled in Bydgoszcz, Poland. My love for birds and wildlife started while growing up in South Africa, a paradise for bird and animal lovers. After getting to know almost everything there was to know about birds in South Africa, we...
