Waimea Canyon, Hawaii

Waimea Canyon, Kauai, Hawaii

The drive up Waimea Canyon Dr (Rt 550) to this photo spot was almost as hair raising as the drive back down! I believe this was taken at Pu'u Hinahina lookout. Waimea Canyon, located on the island of Kauai, is often referred to as the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific". Its formation within the very volcano that formed Kauai is the product of not only erosion, but also the collapse of the volcano itself. The magnitude of this canyon is impressive, over several miles in length, and approximately one kilometer deep, swallowing your visual senses. The tropical foliage at the base makes it something special to see in person. This image barely captures it's grandeur, but I hope you enjoy nonetheless. Mahalo!
