Identification

  • Grey back and head
  • Black eyeline with white borders
  • Orange breast and flanks
  • White belly

Juvenile

  • Browner back

Distribution

Siberia eastwards; winters in southeast Asia and Indonesia.

Taxonomy

Monotypic.

Habitat

Dense coniferous forest.

Behaviour

It makes its nest in a tree; 4-6 eggs are laid.

The diet includes insects, earthworms and berries.
