Identification

Lesser Fishing Eagle Ichthyophaga humilis

Distribution

Southern Asia: breeds from north-west India along the lower Himalayas to Burma, Indochina and Hainan, and through the Malay Peninsula to Sumatra, Borneo and Sulawesi. Resident.

Taxonomy

Two races are genreally recognised: plumbea from the Himalayas to Hainan and humilis further south

Habitat

Forested rivers and streams, wooded swamps up to 2,400m in the Himalayas.
