Identification
Length 14-15 cm; a dark brown canary.
Similar Species
Similar to the Thick-billed Seedeater, but is smaller, with a whitish throat, heavily streaked underparts, lacks white wing bars, and has thin white lines around the eye (rather than a white forehead).

Southern Tanzania
Taxonomy
Monotypic.
Some authorities consider this taxon a subspecies of the Thick-billed Seedeater Crithagra burtoni.2

Forest and bushland.
Status
Classified as Near Threatened in the 2008 IUCN Red List.1
Behaviour
Diet includes fruit and hard seeds of trees and shrubs and also forages on the ground.
