Identification

28cm. Black mantle and breast, white from bill to nape, dark wings with white bar, banded black and white tail, white rump and abdomen, legs pinkish, and bill black.

Distribution

Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Taxonomy

Habitat

Fast-flowing streams and rivers in dense evergreen forest.

Behaviour

The diet includes aquatic insects and their larvae.

It breeds between April–June, building a nest of moss, leaves and rootlets, in overgrown bank, rocks or boulders; 3-4 eggs are laid.
