Identification
16-18cm (in addition to individual variation, there is also variation between subspecies in size).
Olive brown above, pale sides of head, white lores and eyering, buff-ochre below, white throat and belly.
Distribution
South America: found in Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru.
Taxonomy
Subspecies
Three subspecies are recognized[1]:
- G. q. alticola eastern Colombia
- G. q. quitensis central Colombia to northern Peru
- G. q. atuensis northern Peru
Habitat
High altitude scrubland and hedgerows as well as disturbed areas.
Behaviour
Can either hop or run.
Vocalisation
When singing will sometimes perch in the open.
