Distribution
Central and South America: found from Panama to Venezuela, Ecuador, Colombia and Peru.
Taxonomy
Subspecies
Four to five subspecies are recognized[1]:
- C. b. micans:
- C. b. buffonii:
- North-central Colombia (Magdalena Valley) and north-western Venezuela
- C. b. aeneicauda:
- North Colombia (Santa Marta region) and northern Venezuela
- C. b. caeruleogaster:
- Eastern slope of the central Eastern Andes of Colombia
- C. b. intermedia:
The subspecies intermedia has in the past been treated as a full species or as a subspecies of Bronze-tailed Plumeleteer.
Habitat
Various forest types - mixed evergreen and deciduous; dry, moist and wet forests, forest edges, semi-open and secondary growth, as well as coffee plantations. Observed at heights around 234 m.
Behaviour
Diet
Their main diet consists of nectar from various tree sources.
