Identification

Two wing bars and fringes of tertials and tail feathers are yellow to yellowish-white. Eyes pale to reddish-brown.

Distribution

Argentina, Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru, Paraguay, Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia, Panama, and Costa Rica.

Taxonomy

Six subspecies are recognized[1]:

  • P. b. zeledoni
  • P. b. leucogonys
  • P. b. wetmorei
  • P. b. viridiceps
  • P. b. bunites
  • Tepuis of southern Venezuela in Bolívar (Cerro Chimantá-tepui)
  • P. b. burmeisteri

Gill and Donsker (2010)[1] split the first five subspecies as White-fronted Tyrannulet P. zeledoni.

Habitat

Moist forest borders and clearings on lower mountain slopes.

Behaviour

Usually seen in or near canopy, often in mixed fouraging flocks. Mostly seen performing active movements.
